Onderzoekers van de Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen hebben als eersten aangetoond dat behandeling van patiënten met cognitieve gedragstherapie een structurele verandering in de hersenen teweegbrengt. Zij stelden vast dat bij patiënten met het chronisch vermoeidheidssyndroom (CVS) na negen maanden cognitieve gedragstherapie de hoeveelheid grijze stof in de prefrontale cortex was toegenomen. Daarmee tonen ze aan dat de (eerder gevonden) afname van grijze stof bij CVS-patiënten in elk geval voor een deel omkeerbaar is.
